Vancouver Premier of Project Wild Thing
WAV Poem Reading: Vancouver Poet Laureate, Rachel Rose,
Keynote – Dr. Mariana Brussoni
Mark your calendar and join us for a fun night of celebration at the Vancouver premiere of the award-winning film Project Wild Thing, a feature-length documentary that takes a funny and revealing look at the complex issue of a world increasingly disconnected from the natural world, where children often spend more time indoors and in front of screens than outside in nature.
We’ll be joined by Vancouver Poet Laureate, Rachel Rose, for a special reading of a commemorative poem, and Dr. Mariana Brussoni, an expert in outdoor “risky” play, for an engaging presentation about the importance of natural, outdoor play environments for children. Come out and learn about how we can begin to address the increasingly worrying issue of nature deficit disorder, and can start to re-instill a love of the outdoors in our children and our communities.
There will be a 10% MEC discount card for all attendees.
We will also have a raffle! Thanks to generous donations from Patagonia, MEC, NOLS, Soaring Eagle, Gaia Garden and ShareShed. So don’t forget to bring some cash for your tickets!
Location: Rooftop, MEC Vancouver -130 W. Broadway
About Project Wild Thing:
David Bond is a father. Things have really changed since he was a kid. His children are hooked on screens and don’t want to go outdoors. They want iPads, TV and plastic toys. The marketing departments of Apple, Disney and Mattel control his children better than he can. Determined to get them up and out, David appoints himself as the Marketing Director for Nature. With the help of branding and outdoor experts, he develops and launches a nationwide marketing campaign to get children outside. Project Wild Thing is the hilarious, real-life story of one man’s determination to get his children out and into the ultimate, free wonder-product: Nature.
